Day Twelve: An Open Letter

Dear Self,

Your life is not in limbo.  Live each day for the gift it is.  Don't forget that everyone needs a smile and you can be the one to give it to them.

It's okay if you make mistakes... learn from them.  Don't be afraid to make decisions.  Be confident.

Don't look back.  You can never look back.  What's done is done.  Move forward and make a plan for tomorrow.

Don't wait for someone to call you.  Take the initiative.

Finish what you start.  You wanted a Diploma in Accounting.  Stop procrastinating and finish it.  Yeah, you've hit a plateau because of lack of interest in one subject...  So what?  Suck it up and prove to yourself that you can do it.

Stop being silly.  Of course Mr. Smith loves you and cares about your feelings.  He means well and always has your best interest at heart.  Remember when he wrote these lyrics out for you?

Bridge Over Troubled Water
by Simon & Garfunkel

When you're weary
Feeling small
When tears are in your eyes
I will dry them all

I'm on your side
When times get rough
And friends just can't be found
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down

When you're down and out
When you're on the street
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you

I'll take your part
When darkness comes
And pain is all around
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down

Sail on Silver Girl,
Sail on by
Your time has come to shine
All your dreams are on their way

See how they shine
If you need a friend
I'm sailing right behind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind

Always remember that you are surrounded by love.  There is no room for sadness.

  1. Ah, yes, we could all do with a little encouragement from ourselves! :-) For some reason this reminded me of the song, "Write this down" by George Strait.... and so I thought I would post the link.

  2. Wonderful! I think it's good to remind ourselves when we're tired or sad that it's only temporary and we can (often) choose to make the most of any situation we're in. And I love that song, too Samantha! Reminders of love are truly appreciated!

  3. Sometimes it's good to be a little hard on ourselves, but so much more often better to be kind. Not always easy, but worth trying. That song is a beautiful reminder of partnership. Love Simon and Garfunkel.

  4. "Don't want for someone to call you. Take the initiative." That is so hard for me! I need to write that to myself often. Thanks for the S & G lyrics!

  6. a good letter/reminder to ourselves is always a good thing. yes we can be our own worst critic but I am usually the only one that could kick my own ass into a place of doing something.
