Summer Rain

The weather lately has reminded me of the massive amounts of rain we always had in Louisiana growing up.  No, we haven't been getting as much rain as in LA, but it has been raining a lot for Sydney.  At least compared to last year.

When I was a kid, my dad lost his job.  He had to take another job pretty far away and he moved back to Eunice.  My parents were divorced and so we had to divide our time up between my mom's house and my dad's house.  So at this time, my dad was living in a trailer.  Like a house on wheels.  But the really cool thing about trailers is that they have a tin roof.

Have you ever heard the rain pouring down on a tin roof?

There is nothing more soothing than that heavenly sound.

Of course, our apartment does not have a tin roof.  And I'm glad that it doesn't rain like that here in Sydney very much...  thank goodness!  I would not want to have to walk to work in that kind of rain.  But occasionally it is very nice to have that kind of weather.

Today we had a rain storm in Sydney that lasted a little over half an hour.  During this period, there was absolute pouring rain and lightning and thunder.  It was awesome.  The rain that we get in Sydney during the summer is perfect.  It rains more in the winter here.  I hate that kind of storm.  Why?  Because it's also cold.  There is nothing worse than being cold and wet.

  1. i actually love when it rains here because, well, we leave on a sunshiney all the time island and sometimes I just like it to be not so shiney and rainy.

  2. I grew up in an old farm house with a tin roof so I know exactly what you are talking about! I love the sound of rain on a tin roof!!!! Yesterday, I was really enjoying listening to the storm. Oh man, I am sitting here listening to clip you put on thinking - I need a sound machine that plays this for me while I sleep. Lol.
