Much better weather today. Not too hot and it did drizzle a bit, but the sun was out and I was in the park so I just stayed under the trees. :)
So I met with Julia from Relocation Services, which is provided by Arup to help us find an apartment and a job, if needed. I met with her at an open inspection on Liverpool Street just at the end of Hyde Park. It's an older building with lots of character (hum, hum). It's got a pool, sauna, gym and parking, but no storage cage in the garage. The apartment is really small (they all are, I'm learning) and the kitchen is still set in the 1950s. It does have a walk in closet and the shower in the ensuite is larger than most... very dark in the bathroom, though. The balcony is small (my hammock MIGHT fit), but oh my goodness... THE VIEW!
No question. Jim and I are going to have to downsize our life. You think we sold a lot before we moved here? You have no idea how much we are going to have to sell now. We can do it. We just need to get some perspective here. We need to realize that we probably... scratch that... we DO have more than most people have. Do we really need it all? Of course not. So we're just going to have to sit down and have a real heart-to-heart about what we really want. I don't want to give up my quilting, but who are we kidding? I haven't actually sewed in quite some time. If I'm going to keep that stuff, then I need to really do it.
I actually quite liked the apartment I saw today. We'll see. We are going to an open inspection on Manly on Saturday. That would mean an apartment on or near the beach, but it would also mean taking the ferry back and forth to work every day. That would mean an extra $165/month, $452/quarter or $1,632/year. So we have to take that into account too.
As usual, I'll keep you posted.
That is a beautiful view!
